Programmes of TASHI Charitable Trust
The project comprises two major programs for the marginalized community
1. Develop Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN)
The basic literacy and numeracy programme for the marginalized community
- Tashi identifies and trains local women and girls who have completed class 12 to become paid volunteers to impart free training to students in classes 5 to 7. So far, we have provided only free Mathematics classes through our volunteers. These paid volunteers are trained every quarter and provided with a lesson plan. Through this initiative, our community mentors monitor the classes that are held during school hours. Feedback from the school teachers and parents is used for further planning. The emphasis of our classes is to make learning through activity and understanding the concepts, rather than rote learning. Until the academic year 2025, the TASHI has held only math classes but is gearing up to include Marathi and Spoken English based on the feedback from schools and parents.
- Tashi trains grassroots teachers on leadership and motivation in community-based education programs. Tashi believes that a highly motivated and committed leader can contribute to enhancing positive student outcomes. Tashi will develop teaching methods and pedagogy approaches as discussed in NEP 2020. Visits to civic and public utility service offices will be organized to provide learning and experience to students. Regular lectures by successful and public service veterans will be organized for students. Career guidance and workshops on good citizenship will be organized in collaboration with other NGOs. In the future, the FLN program will be expanded to the state of Rajasthan.
2. Dakini Adolescent Leadership Program
DAKINI is a powerful collective of adolescent girls who challenge and expand the way we understand womanhood. They create relationships that reveal the deeper nature and lived realities of women’s lives. They aren’t ordinary girls confined by only certain abilities or boxed into a single identity. They move freely, both outwardly in the world and inwardly. Dynamic and fiercely independent, the Dakinis carve out their own space, their politics, and their voice. Dakini believes in the intelligence of its Adolescent girl participants. The group has organized girls around the world, especially in feminist groups, to increase their power in leadership. These allies are more effective when they have the necessary tools for support, guidance, and education. The collective goal is to equip and empower girls through education and collaboration that inspires female leadership and fosters informed, influential communities. While the dream is to work across India in the future, Dakini is currently focused on making an impact in five states: Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Bihar, West Bengal, and Punjab.
